IPL players seek security assurances

Cricket players that are due to play in the Indian Premier League could withdraw from the competition unless organisers are prepared to provide the players with information regarding their personal security.

Nine England cricketers have already decided to consult the Professional Cricketers Association before deciding to tour India for the Twenty20 tournament, to ensure their security.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has so far refused to allow the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA) to have any input for security arrangements for the tournament and has failed to provide the players or their representatives with any details of their security.

The tournament was staged in South Africa last year because security couldn’t be guaranteed in India and this year’s tournament could now see a backlash of players from around the world refusing to play if reassurances aren’t forthcoming.
