A new ligament in the human knee has been identified and could play a part in one of the most common sports injuries worldwide.

Runner’s knee is the bane of many types of exercise, from running to football to dance and affects one in four physically active people.
A study comparing images of the knees of people who had and hadn’t suffered injury to their anterior cruciate ligaments, suggests that those who tore their ACLs were more likely to have a smaller ligament than do similarly sized people who have never injured a knee.
They found that those who had the poorest movement quality at the beginning of the study were the most likely to benefit from the exercises, according to the study.
